My baby girl has been sitting up unsupported since she was 4 mo. she is now 5mo and sits up on the floor for a real long time playing and amusing herself. She can also stand while holding on to the table and bed by herself since she was 4 mo, her back is straight and her legs real strong. is this normal? shes always been alert and strong physically. just curious!

Each child is different, my daughter was sitting unsupported since 4mths and shes now 9mths and shes starting to walk. I asked the doctor if it was normal seeing as i know children that are older than her and she's doing more than them. I was told that she is above average in development (which clearly made me happy) He told me that it is all in how you interact with your child, when our daughter was crawling we would hold her hands and get her to take steps and now shes doing a step or two by herself.
I am glad to hear that your little one is doing so well! : )

my son is the same way, he is 8 mos old and crawling and pulling himself up to stand on everything..he has always been strong like that, even at 2 mos old he could grab your thumbs and pull himself up to sit w/o you helping him pull up. My pediatrician says he is in great health. You have to remember that every child is different some walk at 9 mos while others dont walk til 18 mos old...some potty train at 18 mos while others are in kindergarten before being fully potty trained. So long as your child is healthy, happy and making progress in all other areas of development, i think she's right on cue!

My sister has a baby girl who is 6 months. She's been sitting up now for about a month or two, so I guess this is normal. I don't think she can support herself standing yet, and you may want to limit the amount of time your daughter does that because she can go bow-legged!
