sleeping through the night

I have a 14 month old baby boy who doesn't sleep through the night. I have already taken away his bottle and crying through the night just doesn't work for him. Does anyone have any good ideas?

My son is nearly three and sometimes he'll sleep through the night, and other nights he'll wake up in hysterics. Usually he's uncovered and confused. Sometimes he has nightmares that scare him so badly he'll just scream until I come in and let him know he's ok. I think the t-shirt covered pillow case sounds GENIUS! I may just try that.
I have yet to do the crying through the night because my husband gets up at 5am and dealing with him being grumpy from no sleep is far worse than me getting up all night long at 8months pregnant.
Try a nightlight and see if it's any comfort him. It helps my son most nights so he can find his "puppy" and his blanket.

Try changing 'pacifiers'. You took away the bottle...maybe he needs something else to comfort him so he doesn't feel alone. I had a friend whose baby would not sleep and she had the idea of covering the pillow case with one of her shirts. The smell of mom being there made him feel surrounded by her and after one night with that comfort, she hasn't had another problem.

I wish I could help you out. My son didn't sleep through the night until he was 15months old. But thats because he would wake up for a bottle. And once the doctor told me I had to stop that 1 am bottle he cried for maybe 5 minutes and went right back to sleep. Does your son take a pacifier?
