sleeping through the night

Do any moms out there have any advice on how to get my newborn to sleep for several hours at a time throughout the night? Our basic nighttime routine for him is to give him a bottle, most of the lights off, then he falls asleep in my or my boyfriends arms, then we put baby in his crib; however, sometimes when we put him in his crib he fusses and grunts and makes noises for anywhere from 2-20-ish minutes (no crying--if he cries we go pick him up and try and rock him back to sleep). How can we get him to be a good sleeper at night?! Any good nighttime sleep ideas?? Does anyone use a noise machine? If so, how loud do you have it and does it work for your baby?

When I had my son, he got his bottle, burped of course! Rock him a bit. And I started putting him down to sleep before he fell asleep in my arms. So he could put himself to bed. Use a little toy the plays soothing music. Softly and not to long. Or not to sure how old your baby is. But I even used a soothing baby Mozart song on repeat. On real low! :) good luck!
