also if you cant make a seperate party for those who cant come, can you video tape it and email or mail it to them?

I say once a year isnt much to ask for everyone to take that 3 hr drive and come see that baby. If its a large amount of people that you want to be there and you know for whatever reason they cant make it financially or what be it, then you take the drive and have a mini party visit for them. 3 hrs shouldnt be looked upon as a hassle, its only one day of the yr and the 1st birthday only comes once! I say if you do go visit them for a mini party, you should still have her reg 1st birthday party where you live and if they really want to come they will make a way. The mini party can be for those who cant.
My hubbys parents are divorced and his mom is always around for every small thing for him. And his dad who is now remarried, they will not come because she is there. I find it to be ignorant, they should get over it for at least 2 hrs out of the yr. But I do just let it be, his dad and stepmom comes to our home they day before his party to give him his gift, and his mom gets to come to his birthday party. I just see it as my hubby's dads loss. My hubbys dad also lives a long distance away, but he does make a trip to see our son.

Both of our parents are divorced and don't get along our wedding was slightly awkward. Christmas was tiring for her with 5 different family get togethers, so I was trying to decide if we should have them come to her. My husband may be leaving about the same time too, so if he does I really don't want to take her out of her comfort zone.

thats true 3 hours isnt to far, i lived 2 and a half hours away from all of my family when my eldest girl turned two and we just drove down to see them and had a mini party of gift giving with lunch and a birthday cake.and my youngest recently turned 1 and we live in another country to our family so we just had a bbq and a little party ourselves with a few friends.i know it always completes a celebration to have your family there, but you could still find ways of making the occassion a special memory with a bit of creativity. x

Can the family come? Or could you go to your family? Skype party sounds fun=)
Some of my family live 24 flight hours away, we have a normal party and they give a call. I know its kinda sad when family cant be there for special partys, but if you can plan them to come you could even make 2 partys(if they cant come on the birthday). hope i could help u abit.
