Hi Dorothy, I would like to encourage you to go to your doctor if your son's sleeping patterns are an issue. I have been working with a variety of children with special needs now for over 11 years. Too many times I have seen parents and others try to diagnos issues they are having without professional help. There are many things that could be trigering your son's sleeping patterns, but since none of us know the whole story it makes it very hard for anyone to comment what they think you should be doing. With the little info that you have shaired and since it is obviously a consern for you... Go see your doctor, if he shoves it off as if there isn't anything to be concerned with, seak out a second oppinon if this has been a long term issue and ask for a referal for a pediatrition in your local area. Also keeping a diary of his sleep/wake patterns will better help show the doctor what it looks like. Just chart when he's awake/ when he sleeps and for how long. I really hope this helps :)

Sounds like you need to keep him awake all day with no naps. Then he should be able to go to bed just fine. If you can't get him to sleep after trying everything than talk to his doctor about sleep meds. Sleep is very important for young children and if he's not sleeping than neither are you.

my son has adhd, and im now trained to work with children with adhd, when he starts kindergarten they should see the sighs, some symptoms are lack of concertration always on the go and never seem to get tierd at the end of each day, also a lack of self awareness towards adults and other children, i would try maybe a hot bath (not to hot) or a warm glass of milk, before bed, i find bedtime olvaltine works for my little boy,try to have quiet time half an hour before bedtime or maybe a bedtime story, also routine is very important, i try to do lots of activites during the day with my little boy,if symptoms persit and you grow more concerned,i would speak to your doctor and they will point you in the right direction. but please if he has adhd donot try the medication i cannot stress how this does not work and just covers the problem up, adhd children should learn how to cope with adhd, i live in england and my son has alot of help through school and its work wonders without medication, im trying to have it banned in the uk. i hope this helps take care and good luck please contact me anytime xxx

I don't think so. Unless there's other symptoms he is showing that you haven't mentioned. My daughter has ADHD, she has never had a lot of trouble sleeping. She did have some but she never stayed up all night. Try waking him up after a few hours of sleeping and getting him back on a normal schedule. It will be a horrendous day, very cranky child but it should work.
