Staph infection while breastfeeding

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

Hi all, I'm new to this group and was wondering if anyone has experienced a staph infection in both breasts, making it too painful to breastfeed? Ive been exclusively pumping and bottle feeding for over a week now. I've got a lot of guilt surrounding the decision to exclusively pump and feed by bottle, as our little girl is only 2 weeks old, and I'm worried that feeding her by a bottle so much will effect her breastfeeding once this has healed. Any contents/advice appreciated :)

I am sorry I have never had it. I am sure someone has and they will reply. My friend had it though and she got a cream and medications and she fed her with formula but she was able to switch back to breastfeeding after it was all healed with the help of her doctor.

Thanks Sarah, that's encouraging. It's nice to hear of someone else that has had a similar experience

Hi Sarah, thanks for the reply. Yes I've talked to the doctor who put me on antibiotics and a cream. I'm just wondering whether anyone else had had the same experience, and how they dealt with it. Eg kept breastfeeding through the pain? Gave up trying and pumped?

Did you talk to her doctor about that? I have not had one but I know her doctor can recommend very good things.
