My daughter is 5 months old and it was suggested by the doctor to start her on cereal to get her eating process started, but I am having a very hard time getting her to take to it. When I try to mix in it a bottle, she stops drinking, and when i mix it in a bowl and try with a spoon she just makes an awful face and spits it out as soon as I move my hand away. Any suggestions

Whether you are meant to start feeding a baby with rice cereal or fruit depends on who you are talking to.So why don't you just try to offer your little one some stewed apple or pear instead for now and return to cereals when eating isn't such a new experience.Babies like sweet things ( breast milk is sweet) so fruit should be an easier sell while she is being introduced to the new experience of eating and hopefully will make the idea of eating more enticing.Whatever you do don't doggedly force her as that will just sour the whole experience of eating!

all my kids had that problem...7,3,and2yr. old. Try mixing it with a little of her baby juice or fruit not alot just enough for flavor and still milk. some babies dont like the plain flavor. since shes new to cereal i recommend giving her rice cereal. its not as thick and its great for beginners. One trick i had to do too, put a small amount on a spoon then give her a little of her bottle,BE CAREFUL so she doesnt choke and do it when she gets really hungry. it might take a couple of weeks because shes so used to sucking her bottle for a meal instead of chewing.IF u put it in her bottle they have special nipples for cereal and milk to come out easier;it has a bigger hole. just try to be patient and make it feel like a good experience to be a big girl eating her food. if all else fails try mixing a little of her baby fruit or juice to flavor it. not alot, and use the milk too. my 3yr couldnt stand the taste of plain cereal but with fruit he would eat the whole bowl...it took me a month for him to eat the cereal without mixing it in the bottle. i hope these tips helped a little...good luck
