Summer Lunch Ideas??

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

Hi Moms,

Tomorrow is the last day of school for my kids for the summer. I am trying to find some cheap and easy lunch ideas now that they will be eating at home everyday of the week. I want to find a variety of things to feed them. Some things hot and some things cold.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

another thing to add into mac and cheese is tuna fish... some people think im crazy for doing this, but its good and healthy... its like tuna helper... ham or spam is always a good add in too..

I am definately going to have to try adding veggies to the mac and cheese. I have never done that. Thanks!

Mac and cheese is always great because it's cheap and you can mix lots of stuff into it to make it more nutritous or just to change it up a bit. Buy lots of frozen veggies and let them choose which veggie to add into the mac and cheese that day. You can also add hotdog pieces. Also, be aware of what's on sale in your grocery store each week. The sales change week by week and you can save a lot of money just by only buying when something's on sale.

oh thought of another... mini pigs in a blanket are always good and come in bulk... (the little hot dog/sausage wrapped in bread)

hahaha yeah... they always had something different to eat at school and it seemed like the cook never had a hard time with making it... fruit cocktail is always a good side item...just thought of that...

That's funny that you say about the daycare because I went to get the school lunch calendar off of my fridge, unfortunately I already threw it out. LOL!

:) one thing you could do to change it up is go for a picnic... do the whole thing- sandwiches, chips, juice, and maybe even a small dessert.. you could go in your backyard or go to a park! Or just anywhere...

As for food ideas.. I dont know.. lol Honestly, I'm trying to think back to what my kids at work ate (I work in a daycare) Taquitos were usually always easy for the cook (just get tortillas and wrap up some shredded chicken inside.. salads too.... something that could be fun to do is have them help you make lunch..

hot dogs, mini hamburgers, soup, spaghetti/pasta... and then one day out of the week they get treated with ice pops!!! :)

Thanks. I am kinda stuck for ideas. It is so much easier when they are only home on weekends for lunch. LOL! I appreciate the help. I actually didn't even think about buying in bulk.

There's always sandwiches and chicken nuggets. You could make Friday pizza day.. or pick one day of the week to treat them to McDonalds or some other place of choice. When you go food shopping though, you might want to buy in bulk considering its cheaper that way.
