Swine Flu and putting infant in Daycare

Hi everyone. This whole swine flu thing is just crazy and it is hard to know how to react. My 10 week old son is supposed to start daycare next week and I am feeling a little hesitant because this will be his first exposure to other children. He is going to an in-home caregiver who has 4-6 children from infants to 4 years old. I live in Phoenix, AZ an I am wondering if he should stay with my mother in law until things calm down a little bit. Am I over reacting??? Any thoughts????

When my son was 5 wks old, I had to put him in daycare. He was a preemie too.

He got SO sick all the time! Right before he was a yr old, he got RSV, Croup and bronchiolitis!

I pulled him out at this point. He was in an in-home daycare also. There were about 6-8 kids, i think.

If you're worried about the Swine Flu, then I'd keep your baby secluded for a little while.

I ended up pulling my son out of Daycare and was fortunate to have a friend watch him. I stay at home now.

I live in Cleveland,OH, where there has been one confirmed case in a 9 yr. old boy here with swine flu. Both of my children(3 months and 18 months) are in daycare. It is linked in with the hospital I work at.Since I went back to work April 1st, between the 2 rooms my children are in I think they have had everything that a child could catch.Neither of my children have gotten really sick besides the usual cold and stomach flu(which my son has had a few times already). But I think putting children in daycare is wonderful. They have interactions with other children and they do catch some of the bugs other children haev.Which can be good for them to help build their immunity.Exposing a child to these viruses will help them get a stronger system and fight off any potential things that could be harmful when they become older!Just make sure they keep his hands clean and things are properly disinfected. They now sanitize my sons hands(18 month old) when he first walks into the doors now as precautionaries.

However it is how you feel about things. You know your child better than anyone and trust your instincts, they usually are right!

Im in Gilbert and have the same concern. I talked to the daycare and made sure they were taking proper pre-cautions. I even called my SS's mo to tell her that since she lives closer to the first known case we should wait a few weeks before my SS comes down.

If you are hesitant then there's nothing wrong with getting him to stay with MIL. As much as we'd all like to think other parents wouldn't send their kids somewhere sick some might. It might not be swine flu or it might, the number of cases is growing each day and WHO just raised the threat level yesterday again. I need to check the news today though, so far there have been no confirmed cases where I am but there were a few suspected.

Well, I live in Dallas, TX where there have been several confirmed cases in my area. My 3 year old is staying home from school the whole week. The reason I decided to keep her home is because I am immunocompromised and I can't risk her bringing something like that home. I think she would probably be just fine, but it's just not a risk my family and I are willing to take.
