does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with temper tantrums?...My 19 month old is just starting to have them and i've tried fussing him, ignoring them, and even whipping him but it doesn't seem to faze him....

i know how you feel my 20month old son just starting having them. my parten told me i had to be firm and put him in his room in the corner and leave him there till he calmed down. i thought this was mean to start off with but he soon learned now i have a naughty corner and a much nicer little boy as well. i tell him he can come out when he decided to stop gruzzling. and i have more free time now cose i dont get stessed out by his tantys.

What I did and still do with my four year old is remove him from whatever room he is in and tell him he can return when he calms himself down. Ignoring is hard but it does work.

What helped me when my son was that age was to create a spot in the house and any area out of the house where he could sit down and calm down and when he was ready and calm he could get up however long it took. The area (rug I had) was not a "timeout" spot but just a spot where he could be set out to have his tantuam.. I got down to his eye level and told him that I understand that he is upset, sad angry, etc but his behavior is unacceptable and placed him in his thinking spot and when he ready to come out he could but he had to be calmed down. Hope this helps.

The only thing I can suggest is keep ignoring him. Eventually when he sees it isn't getting him anywhere he will stop..Good Luck!!
