Can I have my ex-husband's parental rights terminated? He hasn't seen my daughter for 2 1/2 years, hasn't sent her a Christmas or Birthday card. He hasn't otherwise written to her or called her on the phone. Our address and phone number haven't changed. I have sole custody of my daughter and he pays minimal child support, but never pays his half of the unpaid medical/dental bills as per the court order. My 2nd husband is willing to adopt her, but we can never get any answer from his cell phone or signed receipt letters that we've sent. Ideas?

If you think he is willing to let someone else adopt her I would call csea and see if they have his current address. I think it plainly states that he has to update that.

It depends on the laws in your specific state, but your first step is to get a lawyer and find out what the situation is in your state...

generally if the father is absent for a year or more, the courts will terminate his rights.

As Evelyn said, get a lawyer. You will have to petition the court then they will serve him papers to sign.
