Ok my daughter is 8 months old and I weigh more now than I did when she delivered. I work out constantly and am dieting and am not losing weight I am gaining weight. The docs say that it is probably my thyroid but I do not have insurance to get medication to fix it. It is driving me nuts. I am getting married in August and apparently with thyroid problems working out and dieting is pointless.

I weighed 132 when I got pregnant with my daughter and then was down to 120 after the first 5 months because I had such bad morning sickness I couldn't keep a thing down. I spent the whole pregnancy just trying to gain some weight for my daughters sake, the last month finally put some on. When she was 4 days old I had 8 pounds to go till my prepregnancy weight. I breastfed and suddenly in a week I put on 15 pounds then the next put on 13 pounds while I was eating healthy and staying away from salt and sugars.

I really would like to get into my pre baby clothes and lose weight and tone before my wedding but no matter what I do I can't seem to lose any weight.

Do any moms have any advice for what I can do with the thyroid issues and no insurance to try and get it under control and to lose weight. Thank you soooo much.

I have the hyper thyroid. I don't have coverage either but not taking my meds would kill me. I could have a heart attack at any moment with how my thyroid is. But is sounds like you have hypo thyroid. Which means that your thyroid isn't working and has been knocked out, guess you knew that lol. Which mine I loss weight and can't gain, which I can't complain about. But this summer they are knocking my thyroid out so I will be in the same boat. I was told to eat small about six times a day to help speed up my metabolism. There is also something called thyroid assist. But they told me that it can cause some people to feel like they are going through hyper again. They told me the best it to take my meds. You must not live in Canada cause here I can put my meds on my income tax to get some money back. It can be dangerous not taking your meds. My mom is hypo and if she forgets to take even one pill she will feel like she needs to sleep and feels very sick. Talk to your thyroid doctor about finding a cheeper one or if he knows of a cheeper place to buy them. But I would try the eating six small meals first with lots of walking and running. But foods that can help are seaweeds like lato, kelp, nori, gamet, and balbalulang. Yogurt, cow's milk, seafood. Things that wont help you loose weight with hypo are cabbafe, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, soy, pine nuts and millet. But don't stop eating them just start cooking them more cause you do need them in your diet to stay healthy. Just moderate. Hop this helps. Just go online and type in hypothyroid and losing weight. I found all this on www.lowthyroidhelp.com

I live in Colorado also and depending on your area your drug store may offer a discount program that brings a medicine called synthroid down to about 3-5 dollars for a three month supply. I was told that it doesn't effect breastfeeding. I hope you find what works for you.

I wish I knew what to tell you but I have the same problem and have been on the medication for two months, nothing has changed. I'm still gaining weight and I have my wedding in September. :( I hope you find out what's going on and get back to pre-pregnancy before your wedding. Good luck.

Thanks Amanda!
Ya I live in Colorado in the United States and right now with everything else I have to pay for I can't afford the meds. I will try the foods that you said. I do eat small meals and I work out in the little free time I have. I have an appointment with the doc to get it rechecked. I wish I had your thyroid issues haha.
