Hey... Have any of you been away from your baby for a few days? If so, how did you get over the anxiety and worry? My husband and I are planning a short little getaway and I am really nervous and feeling somewhat guilty about going. What can/should I do?

It's okay to be nervous...that's part of parenting. I think I understand that more now than before I had my Son. I used to think that parents overreacted when they were away from their children for a period of time or even if they were out at the park and too cautious about all the play equipment...I am singing a different tune these days let me tell you! lol. I think that you have to get over the guilt because, although you chose to become a parent, that does not mean that you need to be restricted to parent duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (you never stop parenting, you just take a breather from all the chores). People need time away, time to themselves, time with a spouse, time to reflect or just time to relax...it has nothing to do with wanting to escape your child. I fight with this notion too, so you are not alone. I went to a wedding with my sister back in June and my Son spent the night at his Dad's (he's was 4 months old)...at first I thought it was nice to have an entire day to myself to relax and destress, but as the night wore on, I missed my Son terribly...I even called his Dad to check in and see how he was because he had never been away from me at that point. After I got home and thought about it, I realized that I was supposed to miss my Son because I do love him and love to spend time with him...so I wasn't running from him or escaping, I was just having some 'me' time if you will. Parents BY FAR, have the most difficult, rewarding and important job on this Earth and there is no holidays or sick days...we are in for the long haul. But every once in a while it is okay to go out and enjoy something else for a short time, because you know that you are going home afterward and you will be all the more excited to see your little one and cuddle and kiss them, knowing that you are the one they can't wait to see everyday when they wake up!
