My daughter is almost 18 months old and we are wanting to take paci away.

The best I have ever gotten about this is to "give them to babies that really need them". Works best at Christmas so Santa can "take" them, but I think anytime works. Just make a big show out of what a nice thing she is doing for other babies and maybe package them up to mail them.....good luck! Hope it helps!

I haven't had to deal with this, but if I did, I think I would just go cold turkey. Take it away, and if she asks say "paci's all gone!"

I have heard the same, Rebecca. Making it so that the air flows through by cutting a hole in it. My daughter is more attached to it as a comfort object than for the sucking purpose (she holds it in her teeth or plays with it - she's nearly two and we just went to a "night night only" rule) and we're nervous if this will even work. :/

Good luck Rayna!

I have heard that you cut just a little off of the top so that it won't "work" the same which in turn will make her not like it. If she continues to suck it, cut off more. I can't say if it works or not since none of my kids have ever taken a paci, but this is what friends have told me.
