My son is 18mos old and has never slept through the night. I talked to a nurse and she said its normal for some kids his age. Ive tried things like bedtime routines, warm milk, and soothing music but he still wont sleep through the night and he wakes up 2-4 times on average a night crying and also, he wont sleep in the crib or his tot bed. Any suggestions of what might help him sleep better an help transition into his own bed? Thanks in advance

My son had the same issue. I think he slept in his crib all of 3 times as a baby. As a single mom I honestly couldn't help but just let him sleep in my bed with me because I was alone anyway and it was the ONLY way he would sleep. Its actually more common for moms to share the bed with their babies in hundreds of other countries besides America...I did a ton of research on it in the past. There's no harm in doing it but be very prepared for a rough transition once your baby gets older and you want him to sleep in his own bed. My son is 7 now and still spends some nights in my bed (I'm still a single mom) because of our living situation...he is often I give in and let him sleep with me. I'm a softy when it comes to that. Transitioning isn't as difficult if you stick with it no matter what and have a strict routine (brush teeth, read, bed time same time every time--I do these things with my son no matter what bed he sleeps in lol). It will be harder if you let the routine slip up more than sticking with it. I'm not sure if my advice will help but I definitely know what you're going through and wish you the best. If you and you're baby will sleep more successfully in the same bed then so be it. At least you guys will finally have peaceful restful nights every night. Babies also develop better breathing patterns when they sleep next to their mom in the bed. Do some research and see if your lifestyle will have more pros than cons when it comes to sharing your bed with your baby :) I honestly really don't mind co-sleeping.
