Toddler Screams

Megan - posted on 07/13/2009 ( 7 moms have responded )

I have a two year old little boy who is in the terrible two stage, and let me tell ya, this boy has some lungs. It is the kind of screams that make your ears ring and it is so nerve racking. I have never heard a child who can scream like he can. I have tried everything to my knowledge. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me, maybe buy some ear plugs or something?lol

Hi now 9 year old used to do the same thing. I tried time outs, taking stuff away, sending to the room, even a spanking and all it resulted in was frustration for both of us. nothing worked. sending her to her room helped at first, but then she saw her room as a place of being punished and would never just go in there to play. in the end the only thing that worked was ignoring her. it was easy at home, to just walk away but in public was another story. seh would freak out becouse she wanted somthing or to leave, and by removing her from the place, she would win. so even in the store, i would just ignore her and let her scream. boy at those times, you can really tell what other customers had kids. lol. but after a few embarrasing episodes she got the idea and stopped.

I have a 2.5 Year old and he does the same thing sometime. We do 2 different things...

1. Let Him Throw his fit and ignore him (music helps calm you down)

2. We put him in his room and shut the door until he is ready to be nice

My son doesn't just Scream though, he actually throws himself down and hits his head on the hard floor or something hard near by. Whatever you decide to do, you have to stick with it because they then know Mommy is serious. I wish you the best of Luck =)

Try putting him on his bed and tell him that he can only come out if he is going to be quiet n nice. Then leave the room and continue with what you were doing. If he comes out and he is still carying on put him back and repeat yourself. It's hard but they eventualy stop. Just don't say any more about it when he comes out quiet, Cause it will just start again. Just keep going with what you are doing like nothing has happend or preocupy him with somthing that he likes. They forget what they were crying about then.

My quiet 5 year old son is like that, no one ever guessed how loud he was but when he screamed boy did you know it! lmao

if he just screams for attention do not give him any and buy ear plugs!

if its because of a tantrum deal with the tantrum like you would any other time (also buy ear plugs! lol)

once he gets the idea you aren't going to pay any attention to him when he screams he'll stop. My son did it so much it doesnt even phase me anymore, he doesnt do it that much unless hes got a lot on his mind and cant handle it all so he just screams it out. He's still told to do it somewhere else but its amazing to see peoples faces when he does it still since he is such a quiet and shy child!

But yeah buy ear plugs! lol

Mine did the same I am just getting out of it finally he has his days but for now hes better depends on the day I ignore him and go on about my day or I do as rebecca did I put him in a room and tell him when he is done he can come out. Then when he walks out I just go about the day give him a little space and he calms down its exausting I know just to hear the screams makes you tense but there is an end in sight I promise.

my son does the same thing.

i just put him in his room tell him that when he has stopped screaming and calmed down i will come back and he has to say sorry/give kiss/hug before he is allowed out. if he starts screaming while walking down the hall i will put him back in his room and say the same thing as before.

i have only been trying this for a few days but hes getting the picture,
