can anyone give me some advice on toilet training for my three year old son?
He knows exactly what he is meant to be doing but is downright lazy. Ive been trying my best for 18 months now and getting no where. One out of every two wee's he does will be in his pants and he is just pure lazy and will deliberatley go in his pants.
as for Poo's, those go in his pants too. he will do a wee on the toilet and no sooner he gets off, will poo his pants.
its becoming so frustrating and im not sure what else to try! ive tried a rewards system and "its just an accident try again later".. even tried, ïf you wee your pants your in trouble"
nothing is working.
18 months and we are only half way wee trained, not even thinking about poo!
also, he is very happy and proud when he does use the toilet.. just cant be bothered most of the time.

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your advice. I am proud to say Ive had a happy little boy with no wet pants for a whole week straight now! and the best part.. two days in a row he has taken it upon himself to quietly go and sit on the toilet and do number twos! :) extremely happy!

Hey there!

Since all children are different I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but one can hope. :) My 2 (almost 3 year old) is only now almost fully potty trained even though we started him at about 1 1/2, and he had some great progress in between that he would lose for apparently no reason.

One thing I have found that gets him back on track is my diligence to put him on every so often. Starting with every hour, and then gradually lengthening the intervals (it's inconvenient, but it seemed to work) and don't trust him to answer truthfully if you just ask him on the hour if he has to go--put him on, whatever he says. Hopefully in his little boy brain he will start to consider "if I have to go on the potty this often anyway, I may as well do something while I'm here" and going that often he won't really have a chance to go in his pants. (And since he probably won't like to be interrupted all the time, if it "clicks", he'll start to hold it for longer, to where you can put him on every 2 or 3 hours, or he may tell you.) If he doesn't go on one of the hours you put him on, don't wait a whole hour to put him back on again, maybe half.

Also, in addition to a treat for a success I made up a "Potty Report" chart using stars. It helps that two of his favourite colors are included in the stars. He's so proud of seeing his chart fill up with them.

I hope this helps somewhat, because I know it can be very frustrating. Keep up the good work!
