I found a topic on here about a mom concerned that her child had a tomato allergy. Several people responded that it is not an allergy. First it IS an allergy, not just rash producing. I know because I am allergic. Know, people are born allergic to things and for some it takes gradual interactions, the more you consume it the more severe the reactions become. Your child may not be able to eat raw tomatoes now and still can enjoy pizza or ketchup. However, eventually they will not. I went into anaphylactic shock after consuming a raw tomato at the age of 14, prior to that I had healthy servings of tomato products since I was old enough to eat. After that reactions began to appear with pizza, spaghetti and BBQ, etc. Again, not just rashes but anaphylaxis and angioadema, could not breathe, airways closing, swollen hands, face lips etc. I am now 28, and cannot get ketchup on my skin or it produces a burning rash worsened by the time it stays on my skin. I cannot even be in small room or car with steaming pizzas or boiling spaghetti sauce or I cannot breathe. I cannot even eat doritos or other seasoned snacks that contain tomato powder. I would suggest having small children tested for this allergy by blood work at about 9 to catch it before your child experiences these life threatening symptoms if they have had any type of rash or reaction to eating any tomatoes or tomato products. If you or someone you know shares this allergy there is a Facebook page called "severe tomato allergy" for good tomato free recipes and friends of the allergy.
