Torticollis and speech delay

My son (who is now 20 mo) was diagnosed with torticollis at 4 mo. He did not require a helmet or band, although his head was very misshapen. He had fluid build up on the right side of his forehead, his right is/was bigger than the left, and his right eye is slightly smaller than his left. We went to PT for about 6 mo. Coulton is now a happy, healthy boy who can move his very round head in all directions, run, climb, and just be all boy.

My main concern is his speech delay. We had TNs early intervention program come out the other day for a screening. He did pass the communication part of the screening, but mainly because he understands and is trying to talk. (he jabbers all day long and is very expressive with his hands). He does not say real words.

I have had this thought that the torticollis may be to blame for what is in my opinion, a speech delay. Has anyone else had a child with torticollis and a speech delay? Do you think that the two go hand in hand?

We have a three year old son who was also diagnosed with congenital torticollis and now has a significant speech problem. He understands everything, but his expressive language / articulation is very poor. Otherwise he is a very happy and healthy boy. I believe that there is a definite link between torticollis and speech delays. We have had him in speech therapy for a few months and are pursuing further speech therapy programs.

My son turned 2 in July. He had torticollis as a baby, which has since resolved but his speech sounds very much like your son's.

I'm sorry to hear about the Torticollis, but happy about him being a normal boy. I haven't got any experience with that but my 22mo, just babbles and expresses with the hands also. He calls everyone dad lol and he does understand my commands. Hope this helps in someway
