My husband and I have a 10.5 month old son and will be traveling to Washington D.C. My husband wants to take the Amtrak train which would take 2 1/2 days and we would be sleeping in a 4ft x 6ft sleeper car. I am concerned that this would be incredibly difficult even more so than a 3 hour flight which is my preference. Does anyone have experience with this? Any thoughts or suggestions? PLEASE HELP! I don't think my husband understands. He hasn't been alone with our son for more than an hour at a time. He doesn't realize how much work it will be to travel that long on a train!

I just got back from a holiday with my daughter she is 12moths old. We took the plane which was a 4 hour flight. I found this hard enough so i cant imagine what a long 2 day train ride would be lie! I would opt for the plane because even though it is uncomfortable and hard it is over quicker so your child will adjust better :)

Thank you both for your thoughts. I really want to fly. Right now flights are so cheap that we could probably get a seat for him and still come out ahead of the Amtrak. I think that having him his car seat would make it even easier.

yikes, I dont know if I could do it!!! my daughter is 10.5mo too! and I wouldnt take a second thought about the 3hr flight!!! lol. however kids can surprise you!! I have only traveled short distances with my kids in the car(2.5-3hrs) and sometimes we had to stop and let them run around, also the noise factor on a train at night ect.those are my thoughts.
