Weekday vs Weekend Routines

So, I keep reading about how important routine is for a baby. I have a 2 month old daughter, and am trying to get her on to a routine. We have a pretty good one during the week, but I am finding on weekends the routine goes out the window. We don't get up at the same time, her nap gets thrown off, and my husband doesn't seem to understand why I get so frusterated. Does anyone have any advice, or experience with a similar situation?

The original posters baby is two months old. The current recommendation is to feed on demand, not on a schedule.

We didn't set up a routine for our babies so much as a routine emerged. They woke up when they wanted to wake up. We fed babies when they were hungry, and put them down for naps when they were tired.

Now, I could anticipate that a nap might be around 1pm. but a baby might start to show signs of being tired around 12:30pm, or not until 1:15pm. I would just follow their lead. One advance of this was that by following the baby's cues it was easier to notice when baby's needs were changing - like going from 3 naps to 2 naps.

I also encouraged our kids to sleep where they were. If we were out they napped in the car, or the stroller, or the baby carrier. If we were visiting, I'd put a blanket on the floor in a quiet room and they'd nap on the floor. We weren't a slave to the babies routine, we just worked the baby's needs into our plans and came up with something that worked for everybody.
