My 8yr old son is complaining of smelly sweaty arm pits already. I thought they don't wear deoderant until puberty and when they start growing armpit hair but since he's already complaining of them being sweaty and smelly if I should go ahead and let him wear deoderant.

I know how you feel. While my 8 year old daughter isn't showing any signs (she is very little for her age), many of her friends are starting to show some of the signs of puberty. I just don't want my baby to grow up!! She is the youngest, and I just want to keep her young for a little bit longer!

Thanks and good point Jodi about bathing. I talked to his teacher today about it and she said that kids are hitting puberty alot sooner now a days. She said maybe not mentally but physically they are. She said 3rd grade is the new 5th grade. Just hate that it's happening so soon because to me he's still a baby.

If he smells then yes let him use it!
If you are concerned with the aluminum and other
"bad" things in it buy a nice organic one or make him one.

I would. My mom made me wear deodorant as soon as I started smelling, well before I started shaving.

Puberty begins when they start producing the hormones, not when the hair grows. Around the time the hormones begin, they being to get a bit smelly, it has to do with their sweat production. Every kid is different. I have one who could clear a room, and is constantly having to wash and deodorise, and another who barely needs it. But basically, when he starts smelling, he should use deodorant. Also make sure he is washing properly (as in discuss this with him), because the odour could be a build up of bacteria on the skin.
