Again Paula Kins, you are completely ignorant on intact care. You don't do anything to his penis. Leave it alone, clean only the outside. When it retracts on it's own, and the boy usually discovers this by himself, you retract and rise with plain water. NO, you don't need to be putting chemical baby lotion on a baby's penis. Who gave you your medical degree??

you should begin retracting it as soon as possible but do not force it gently stretch it and uncover the head completely, wash it carefully, moisturise with baby lotion and ensure foreskin is returned to covering the head each time. The is NOT an age to do but the earlier the better

my sisters son had to have an operation on his penis and they told her off for pulling it back and cleaning at that age. you shouldnt be doing anything at all and definitely at 16months as they can get scars and damaged skin and it actually highers the chances of infections. once a boy is about 5 or 6 you should be able to show him how to clean it. dont push it back.

Hey Kimberley,
I have 5 children wchich 4 of them are boys, you should be pulling his skin back everytime you take him a bath little by little each day untill it completely comes out. Now I will be honest, they will cry, and it will stay red like ripped , but it's best you start as early in his life as you can, because he will feel it worse the older he gets. Let me know how it goes. your friend, tori

You are def not supposed to force it! I don't know if you have noticed but baby boys get erections from very early on and that is natures way of pulling the foreskin back. Eventually, I think the doc said around 2-3 years of age, it should be completely...versatile lol

Well, my son was circumsized, but he has what we've dubbed the "hide-away-penis" and we were advised by the hospital that once his circumcision healed, we should pull the foreskin back and clean around the head. If he's been circumsized, then as long as it's healed, you should have no worries pulling the skin back. Now, I understood that the uncircumsized penis could have the foreskin pulled back, also, the same way. It's all how you do it. For cleaning my son's, I put my thumb on the underside of his penis at the base and my forefinger on top at the base, and push back, and it comes out naturally on it's own. Gently, I might add. This way, you're not forcing it to come out. If you're really worried, you should definitely speak to your son's pediatrician.

You shouldn't at all. It'll go back on its own when the time is right. I think average is around 3 or 4 years.

I think its between 2-3 yrs it should start to be pulled back. If it doens't go don't force it. My sons moves some but he does it on his own while he's on the potty or in the bath exploring. We haven't had to help but soon we will before an infection sets. Happened to a friend of mine son:( They didn't know it was suppossed to be moved so it got infected. Ask your Dr for personal prefrence though. Great question:)

I think I understand this, but I may not. Do you mean for him to get erect? If that is what you are asking I honestly didn't think you were supposed to help him at all. I could have sworn that, that kind of thing just happens on it's own when it is time for them to explore themselves, not with help.
