...On strangers touching your child? I was shopping the other day and was standing in line when this guy came up and stroked my daughter's cheek and said isn't she gorgeous? I said to him she is just as gorgeous when strangers arent touching her...he got really offended that I didnt like him touching her...

This had probably been mentioned before...but please humour me :)

If I'm talking to a person in a store and they reach out and touch her hand or pat her on the head I don't mind. But to have some one just wander up and touch my kid's face and say "Isn't she gorgeous?" would have me thinking they're a pedophile. That is just creepy. I would have slapped his hand away!

Yeah, it really weirds me out when people I don't know touch my baby.

My son was nearly 3 months premature and we didn't really go anywhere with him for a LONG time, but when it was ok-ed by the dr we took him to the store with us really quick to pick up a few things. I was alreay a little on the edge, because it was drilled into us, since he wasn't born with an immune system, when people wanted to touch him, it was wash your hands then use germ-x... ANYWAYS... we are in the baby section and my husband was getting formula and I was standing with my son by the cart, I turned my head to the left to look at the lotions. Well we had one of those carseat covers on.. that like zip up.. well this lady unzipped the cover and touched him... with me standing right there. instantly t-ed off... i was like lady, would you like it if i unzipped your purse and went through it? and asked her where in the world would she ever think it's okay to do that. lol..... yeah maybe I was a little harsh... but. i was being momma bear.

I would never been able to go up to someone's child and touch them.... it's just weird.

Quoting Lyndsay:

I love how you had the guts to tell him what you were thinking.

Lol it was more of a knee jerk reaction!! Afterwards I was thinking holy shite he was so much bigger and could have hurt me!! Sometimes I have to learn to keep my mouth closed!!

I used to hate it when people would go up to my baby (when she was a baby) in her stroller especially when she was very young. I would just smile and get away as quickly as possible and then wipe her off with a baby wipe. I love how you had the guts to tell him what you were thinking. I mean people should know better. They always go for the face and hands too!

I don't like it when strangers try to touch my children. I think it's common sence to ask if it's alright to do so.

I would never go up and touch someones baby w/o knowing them. But I think alot of people who do this are old and harmless. Of course there our germs everywhere, but some older people just love little children and to them its just an innocent gesture to tell you how beautiful your baby is. To you it might be rude, but others don't know that especially the elderly, as they were brought up in such a different world than us.

I prefer people not touch my child. I mean did you know most people dont wash thier hands after using the restroom? And now my kid could have pee or poop on thier face. I have found that its usually the older generation that does this and I think its just part of how they grew up. But I agree I would never touch someones child without asking, even if I knew them. But if they do touch her I tend to freak them out and tell them to watch out because she has a stomach bug and has been puking and had diahrrea for a few days. Watch how fast they take off.

I didn't like random people doing it with my first and I definately won't with my second. You never know, and a mom's got to protect her baby. I never touch a baby when I see one, I might say something to the mom and ask how old, and comment on how precious or something, but unless I'm invited, I think it is totally rude to just touch someone else's child. I might be willing to touch if I get into a good discussion with the mom (which is more likely when my son is with me) but I always watch and see if its okay with the mom first.

I just think that people wouldnt like it if a stranger went up and touched them so why touch others even if it is a baby? Never mind the germs they might have on them!

I totally agree with you! I can't stand strangers touching my kids especially when they are babies. I consider it to be rude.

hmm i think taht it depends on the stranger. if a harmless looking little old dear stroked their cheek ( which one did the other day) then i wouldnt be to concerned, but if it was a weird looking guy did it then i would be a bit freaked out and be like get off my baby!
