My son just turned 2 and he didn't sleep through the night until he was about 14 months. He would sleep through the night for a week then the next week be up all night. I didn't want to let him cry it out either..

I started giving him a night time snack and a sippy cup of milk right before bed so he had a full stomach, which made him sleep through the night most of the time. Some people don't like giving liquids after a certain time because they can pee through their diapers, which happened a few times to my son. I just started buying the over night diapers which kept him dry.

If he did wake up in the middle of the night I would wait a few minutes to see if he would soothe himself back to sleep or not. If it sounded like he was going to wake up I would get up and rock him for a few minutes and put him back down. Some nights I had to do this a few times before he learned to soothe himself back to sleep. It took some what of a long time for my son to learn to sleep through the night, maybe about a month of doing this!

I learned that a strict schedule for bed time helps a lot, at least it does for me and my kids! I don't know if that will help or if you tried that at all, but I thought I would share :)
