my 3 year old daughter throws really bad tantrums on a regular basis (we think she has autism but hasnt yet been diagnosed)
i turn her attention toward something that she likes/enjoys..whether it be a toy or a program, OR i ask her 'why are you crying for?' which usually stops her in her tracks to think about it for a second...then divert her attention toward soemthing else and she usually settles quite quickly.
if all else fails, she is sat on a lounge chair in view, and ignored. if you dont show attention, usually after a while they will get bored!
hope this helps :)

I can't tell you what to do, but i will say, whatever you choose to do, be consistant. Otherwise it never works.

Don't pay him any mind. Let him throw it huge! He's doing it for the responce, don't reward the negative behaivor. Remeber to reward the positive, if you notice he's being loving or good natured turn off the tv and give him some one on one time, maybe read a book or bake some cookies, or go outside. You will see him come around, pick your battles, save the arguments for the important things. Try to keep day to day chores fun, you will feel like mary poppins but heck whatever works.

My son is only 4 months old but I do have a 11 year old brother and he threw some of the best tantrums I've seen. My mom would let him cry it out(as long as he was in a safe place and couldn't get hurt) and if he wasnt she would pick him up and put him some place that he would be. In those cases she occassionally got a fist to the face or foot, OUCH! But really all in all let them dry it out and once they realize they aren't getting their way they'll hopefully stop. Good Luck! I'm not looking forward to it:S
