My son is 2 1/2....he sits on the potty for at least an hour and refuses to go! There is no right or wrong age....when he is ready, he will do it. Best of luck to you!

I never potty trained my kids. They ended up training themselves. All I did was:
~At 18 months set up the potty chair on the big potty and let them sit on it whenever they asked.
~ After they potty trained themselves (my oldest did so in a month and my youngest in a week) I put them in undies and never went back to diapers. Since they've already shown they are fully capable of knowing when they need to go and going then the diapers get packed away. If they have a accident then they help me clean it up but I refuse to send them mixed signals by letting them use diapers/pull ups when they feel lazy. It would make the process take much longer. my twin niece and nephew weren't fully trained until 5 b/c of this.

I think it might be too early for your son. Boys usually train a liitle later than girls. My girls weren't ready until 28 and 32 months old and then trained themselves in very little time.

THere are so many things you can say about this! At 20 months or 24 months, toddlers have a really hard time to settle down and it's harder for us to keep their attention span. So the younger you try to start, the more work it will be for you, but better in the end because I have heard the entire process to get them to stop wetting the bed could be years, so why not start now!!!!??? When you sit him down, make sure you have a book or toy or song that you two can engage in. My daughter and I always read her favorite book when she sits on the potty so when she wants to read the book, she goes to sit on the potty, but many times, I have to force her. Once she is there and we are playing, she doesn't even realize she is doing something she doesn't like. I also tried to train myself. Let your little one run around with out a diaper for an hour or two....the stress will force you to take him to the potty every 15 minutes to make sure he doesn't pee on the couch! :-) hope this helps
