My little girl was born 4 weeks ago and i breast fed her for the first 2 weeks but after that started to add formula milk as my milk didnt seem to fill her up. She has my milk in between feeds now and she is happy and putting on weight. Just wondered what formula anyone would recomend as the 1 she is on seems to make her sick on and off. Thanks

Try Earth's Best formula... there is some funky stuff in many of the traditional non-organic formulas. If you're already giving her the best (breast!), the organic formula will be your next best option.

I would suggest Enfamil Gentlease. That is what my son has been on and I had to try a couple of different types to see what worked best with him. You might have to try a couple of different types until you find the one that agrees best with your daughter.

My pediatrition recommended Enfamil A+ Gentalease (Also called Lipil Gentalease), as it is Lactose Reduced.

I am lactose intolerant, so my children have a high chance of being the same, but the danger with going Lactose Free for him, is it raises his chances even more of being intolerant (I studied this so Much in the past nine-months!), but this stuff has 80% less lactose than reg formula, and he does well on it....

Use whatever works for your baby. I used Good Start as it was easy on my DD's tummy, it has broken down proteins and so is easier to digest. similac just gave her really bad gas. I've heard some moms really like Parent's choice at Walmart, and it is cheaper. .

Never had a problem with my son and he was on the same milk. Think it could be because she is smaller than what he was. She did get constipated last week but she has cleared that now, dr said to just give her a little water and that seems to have helped.

it's normal for babies to spit up a bit. as long as it's not a lot and that she doesn't have constipation problems or gets colics... it would be normal...

I breastfed my son for the first 9 weeks, but I was not roducing enough milk so he had to have formula aswell. I used SMA Gold {0-12 months}, Ithen used SMA White {from 6 months} when he was about 9 months old because the gold was not enough for him. When he was 1 we put him on the SMA Progress {from 6 months}. Hope this helps and Good Luck

How is she sick ? Diarrhea, vomiting ? She could possibly have a lactose issue. My daughter had RUNNY, brown ( like cardboard box color ) diarrhea. We put her on Soy formula and it cleared up. I would talk to your doctor. Formula is very hard on a baby's digestive tract, she may need a special one. Good for you for continuing to nurse her also.....breastmilk has so much that formula just can't offer. We had to do the same thing you are doing for our daughter. She just wasn't gaining ANY weight on breastmilk alone. Hope it all works out for you all.

I was using Similac advance with early sheild to suppliment breast milk. I recently switched to Similac Organic it is made with organic milk so it is even healthier, but it has all of the same ingredients of similac advance. My son is mainly on breast milk he has a couple bottles of formula in the night. We have really liked the similac he was born 5 lbs and now at 3 1/2 months he is 15 pounds.

I use Similac Isomil Advance because my two month old is lactose intolerant and that's what it sounds like your baby is too.

I used Good Start DHA/ARA (orange can) with both of my kids and they both did well with it. My son did spit up some but his pedi said it wasn't the formula(he just outgrew it). They are now 4 and 2 1/2 and healthy as can be and allergy free!

Quoting Liz:

I started on formula when my daughter was just a few days old. She was jaundice and losing weight, to add to that my milk never really came in. At first I was told to give her the regular similac, but she seemed to get really gassy and have projectile vomiting, so the doc recommended the soy based similac, that seemed to help with the vomiting, although she did get a little constipated but i would just give her some water with light Karo syrup if she didn't go in a couple of days.

Its called Similac Isomil Advance

I would suggest Similac Advance. I used it on my son since he was 2 weeks old, and he loves it more than any other kind I've tried (such as Enfamil). Hope this helps! Also, if you need assistance, WIC offers compensation for Similac Advance. :)
