i think you should start talking to him now about it so it doesnt come as shock to him ,children understand more then what people think .

ASAP.. But little bits at a time. Maybe get him some books or make one, he may not really understand yet. But I don't think it helps to keep it a big secret.

I think children understand more than what we think they do at such a young age. Tell him what you think you need to tell him and how you feel it would best be said. Personally, if something is wrong with me (such as when I had morning sickness earlier this year), I explained to my son that Mommy didn't feel well and that she would be better soon. He hugged me and wouldn't leave my side if I didn't feel well. He's actually a very supportive little guy, and I'm sure yours will be too.

i would tell him now that way he will understands how it effects you if you leave it to late he might get angry at to for not telling him earlier

i think since he's under 3 he's a bit too young ot understand anyway BUT you need to IMMEDIATELY get him tested to make sure he doesn't have it also

I would tell your son you are sick, and that you dont feel well some of the times, I wouldn't go into detail about all the facts until he is old enough to understand what it means.

i guess he kinda knows because he has seen all the treatments i do everyday and he comes to visit me in the hospital i just wasnt sure when to fully explain to him why all of this is going on. i thank all of you for your comments. please dont hesitate to continue. THANKS

i have liver disease. its a hereditary condition. I explained to all 4 of mine that my liver is broken. i explained how when i eat certain foods ( proteins) it makes my blood sick because my liver doesn't work. i answered their questions. i even explained to them that one day i may need part of their liver. i didnt wait to tell them..because they knew i was "sick" but we didnt know how or what i was sick from. we are learning together about the disease. they feel active in this too.

you should wait another few months until he is a little bit older to tell him everything. You could start by reading him stories about doctors and hospital so by the time you do tell him he will have a small bit of an understanding. It is always easier to understand for a child if they have a tv show or book to relate to.

How old is your son? I think you should start explaining it to him asap. Some may disagree, but its jus me and my son and its been that way since he was born so I tell him everything thats going on with me. He can handle it.
