Hi y'all. I'm taking my 8 week old to the doctor tomorrow because I think he has thrush(his tongue is white and it's not wiping off easily). The past few days he's been getting a little restless & fussy while eating & then yesterday I noticed the white stuff. My daughter never had it. Any advice? And how will they treat it?

my son (and I) have had thrush a couple times now! it sucks.. if you are breastfeeding you got to take an oral medication yourself and if you pumped any milk it has to be thrown out. as well, they have a topical cream that you have to apply and it hurts when its inside your breast. my son didnt have to have antibiotics.. i dont think that they generally prescribe antibiotics for treatment of thrush, just an oral solution that i swabbed in his mouth 3 or 4 times a day.. we had to boil/clean anything that got into his mouth and make sure we washed and used antibacterial after EVERY diaper change.. but it goes away, it just takes time!

my 6 month old had thrush when she was 4months old its a bacterial infection. the doctor gave her a medicine that took forever to work i don't even think it did all you can do is take a wet clean baby towel like the bathing once and clean their mouth every chance you get oh and the medicine it smells nasty and taste bad too my daughter hated it and would spit it up. when the white stuff starting coming off it was grows i sat there cleaning it until it was all gone she was fussy from me doing that but i wanted it gone. to prevent it again i am more careful when cleaning the bottles and i clean her mouth more often. so don't worry it will go away. its not fun

Thank you all. We are headed to his pediatrician in the morning. I hope whatever they give him helps him to get relief quickly. This is breaking my heart to see him suffer. It's terrible for a baby not to be able to eat when they want to.

My daughter had thrush a couple of weeks after she was born. The doctor prescribed medication for her. They advised me to clean and boil her bottles after every feeding so that is will not spread to her mouth again. My daughter did not want to eat very much at all unless the milk was warmer than usual. She would suck a little and then cry. After she went on the medication the next day she was back to herself again. The medicine was just fine for her to take and she was only 5 weeks old.

Good Luck!

Have you heard of GoGurt tubes? They are yogurt in a tube and the kids usually love them, they come in many favors. If you can get him to take a spoon, that would work, but if he wont take a spoon or suck off of the tube, try putting it in a small bottle with a little formula or breastmilk to thin it out some. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out! If you need anymore help with anything, im here! :)

Quoting Christina:

Hey Tiff,
My niece and little sister had this when they were his age, give him yogurt, the bacteria in it will clear it up in a few days, if it gets worse the doctors may give you something for it, but yogurt always did the trick for the girls! hope this helps!!

Try to give plain yogurt with a spoon? I had to give my daughter prune juice at about 4 weeks old for constipation so I'm game to try the yogurt but was wondering how to go about it since he's so little. I'd love to get rid of it without antibiotics.

My daughter had thrush a few times. They treated her with medicine call nystatin. They told me to boil all nipples and pacifiers and if you are breastfeeding you will probably need to treat yourself also. It's very common.
