I love this site because it's nice to get advice, support, or listen to a cute story about of children. I think the earlier comment about jokes was very nice. After a long day, it's nice to be able to escape from the madness of the day and come together as a group and share a laugh. I think it would be easier if we can all avoid drama (come on guys we deal with that all day :D ) and relax, unwind, relate, and share the joys of motherhood.

I am going to try to post something on the welcome page about what's appropriate and what goes best with each forum. If I can, I've been having problems with that!!

[deleted account]

Okay...hehe, it makes me feel old and out of the loop when I don't know what those are, even though I am not old :) That is a great idea about it being on the welcome page, but I have no idea how to do that and I don't want to post too many more threads to the top of the page, I think we may have too many now as it is.

Quoting Jamie:

How about some how to control that same questions being asked over and over and over. Like how to get my kid off the bottle/paci? Or how to get my kid to sleep in thier bed? Or is breast/bottle feeding better? I think these pop up not only once a day but numerous times a day.

I know I'm the Admin for wtCom, but I was reading this thread and I try really hard to close multiple topics of the same issue.  The problem is that so many people are joining, they don't know these threads have been through here a million times.  I wish I could find a way to keep the welcome page to certain topics.  For example, a lot of the threads are perfect for DM, April 2009 babies and other communities, but not for wtCOM.  Any thoughts on this?  Any ideas?

[deleted account]

I thought that was funny Kelly, if we could post pictures in threads I would have seriously tried to find one :)

I would like to see a giant elephant riding a bicycle. Can you make that happen Melissa?

[deleted account]

Okay, what would you ladies think about having all the really old thread being deleted. There really is no reason to have so many old ones. It might clean it up a bit. This was a suggestion on the leaders group. What do you all think??

[deleted account]

hehe, okay thanks Jamie! Well, other than this concern with the way people type, what else can we do to improve things here??

Thanks Missy , you are doing a great job , i would PREFER proper written english too but that is not reality .
Jamie isn't " BTW " one of those annoyances of yours ?
practice what you preach .

[deleted account]

Okay, I don't think this is solving any problems. Jamie, it would be nice if we could get people to type correctly and not use abbreviations, but I can't make anyone do that. I don't think it would benifit anyone to delete or close the threads either. I do however think that if we have an issue like we did with "Rhonda" again, it will be dealt with...believe me. There will be a warning first (like what was asked of me) then if it continues to be a problem they will be blocked. I don't have a problem with misspelling, I do the same thing. I do not like stuff like DD for dear daughter either, but I can't really make people stop that either, it is just common anymore. But I do understand the annoyance!

So you saying we should encourage this behavior? We should encourage people to use this type instead of teaching them to type correctly. What about people that use English as a Second language? Shouldnt we be teaching them proper English? (btw you brough ESL up)

well for as long as technology keeps getting bigger we are just going to be seeing more of this , text speak or acronyms commonly used and created for the internet and mobile communication will ALWAYS be found on the internet , in fact in some countries it is now acceptable to answer high school exam questions in this " lingo " .
For those who need help deciphering these internet acronyms or text here is a link for you .
http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php
Honestly i would prefer if people wrote properly but you cant stop a language specifically made for use on the internet and mobile phones .
Its probably going to get worse until the point of written English as we no it is obsolete and we will all be old timers shaking our fist's saying things like
" Children these days " , lmao ! ( laughing my ass off )

Um maybe you misread. Misspelling is one thing. Typing ppl instead of people is not misspelling its laziness. typing r u serious? Instead of Are you serious? is not misspelling its laziness. Intentionally leaving out letters and not knowing how to spell something are 2 different things.

Its not discrimination. Its speaking as an adult. Would you talk to a person like that? Would you write a letter to a friend like that? No why because its immature. We arent 16 we are grown adults and act as such. I could turn around and say the same thing that Im being discriminated against because of my views and all my posts should be allowed. Its about common decency. If you want to be taken seriously type correctly, its not that hard.

On an international site for some English is a second language or they choose to type in What is generally shortened text style , you cant just go around blocking and deleting because of spelling its discrimination , if you don't like it don't read it , simple .

Nikki Agnew : If you noticed I stated mis-spelling is one thing but to type ppl instead of people is lame. Why cant you type people. And when you read a post that contains stuff like that its can get hard to read and looks immature. By the way I am dsylexic too and it doesnt affect my typing, yes I switch letters and numbers but doesnt have affect on my acutal spelling.

Missy: delete or lock posts with improper typing.

[deleted account]

I agree about people typing the correct way, but that is not something I can really MAKE people do. I don't know how to go about getting this to happen. Any suggestions?

can we stop people from typing like this-----shud she b standing by now at 1 yr 1 month old? Really how hard is it to type out complete words and sentences? We are supposed to be adults here yet want to type like we are 16. i understand mis-spelling but to purposly leave out words and letters seems a tad immature.

There was a suggestion in the Debating Mums group that someone should just make a "Potty Training Questions" group, same with "Sleeping Questions", "Eating Questions", etc. etc!

[deleted account]

That's a great suggestion, but I really have no idea how to go about that. This is something that other admins have asked in a group for just administrators but we haven't gotten any feedback about it yet. I'd say try to be patient and hopefully they can figure something out.
