OK I had an epidural and basically I still felt the upper part of my body and had more control of my whole body, but no pain at all. I then was rushed for an emergency c-section and then had a spinal block and then I could only feel my head everything else was completely numb and I had no control I couldn't move anything. I was definately completely numb longer than 20 minutes it was about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before I could feel my body again.

hi brandi,

a spinal block will only last at most 30 min and kicks in within 2 min while a epidural can last for more than 24ish hours and can take a wihile to kick in.

i had a spinal block while my sister had a epi

Okay, so from my experience, an epidural is a more temporary pain blocker and goes in your spinal column. A spinal block is an shot at the base of your spine, and it kicks in in about 10 seconds, and you are completely numb and last for several hours. Usually, I think they use that for c-sections.

Ok I am not a doctor but I had a spinal block instead of an epidural and this is my understanding a spinal block blocks the pain for about 2 hours (an epidural lasts longer) it is a one shot deal don't leave behind anything for you to keep giving yourself pain meds it takes effect sooner but doesn't last long. I had one during my c-section and was told by the nurses that I would have a harder time recovering most likely because of it, they were surprised I could move the next day. I hope this helps a little and someone else can offer more insight
