When and how did you get your baby to sleep all night? 10-12 hours straight

I have a 3 month old little boy and he goes to bed everynight at 630/7 after his nighttime routine. He will sleep until 1 or 2 and then drink a bottle and fall asleep again until 430/5 drink a bottle and then up up at 630/7. I know every child is different and honestly I am not upset about his sleep pattern bc when he does wake up at night he passes right out after his bottle. But, just wanted to see what others have experienced and if for whatever reason he has trouble stretching his sleep what might some tricks be.

Hi, Does your son go for longer than 10 hours in the day without a bottle? If so then he is not waking in the night because he is hungry - he is waking because you feed him and its habit for him. I stopped doing it to my (now 17 month old) when he could go more than 10 hours in the day - it will require strong will as he will cry and wake for about 5 or 7 days to start with but as soon as he learns you will not go in and feed him - he will stop - i promise. ITs hard listening to them cry but it is so worth it in the end.
I used to put a quarter of a rusk in with his last bottle to help his sleeping too.

Good luck

Each child is different. My son was 15 months old when he slept though the night. To help you.... Set a routine. Dinner, bath, rocking with story. What ever you want to do, but you have to do it everynight at the same times.

I would give my son a bowl of cereal with banana at night. They are "heavier" foods so they would last longer. You might also try getting him to stay wake a little longer, like 7:30.

Good luck!

i started my daughter on a sceduale i think close to the end of her 1st month it starts at 8 every night. between 8 or 9 (depends on work and were i am) she'll have her bath then she'll have a five or six oz bottle if necesary, play for a while, and normally by 11:30 shes out like a light, though lately i've been having to give her, her passie and rock her to sleep or just hold her close, but yeah, i've been doing this for 2 months now and believe me having a sceduale was the smartest thing i do and like my mother said "its never to early".

RICE CEREAL!! If you put this into the last bottle of the night you should see a better sleep pattern at least a few more hours of shut eye! Hope it works

Sounds like your little guy is doing great! My son is 10 months, and he sleeps from about 8pm to 8am now, with one waking to breastfeed around 11pm most nights. Other than setting a bedtime routine, we didn't do anything special to get him sleeping well. Around 6 months, he started to self-soothe at night, and shortly after that he started waking less often for feeds.

My son at 2 months had the same pattern where he would go to sleep then wake up for a bottle and after the bottle he would be out again. At about 3 months he was able to completely lift his head and push himself up on his hands and I was told to try putting him on his belly to sleep. (I know there are sooo many different feelings on this, but you wanted some different stories on what made our babies sleep) After that he started sleeping 12-14 hours straight. Again some doctors and people state it is unsafe and all that but the problem with my son was laying on his back scares him during the night...like he would throw his hands up in the air and start crying, I dont know if he was dreaming but once on his back he slept right through. Also he would spit up in his sleep and often would choke on it on his back.

Hope you find the answer :)

Put cereal in his milk bottle. He might need a little bit of juice to washing down the milk so he is not so thursty. Just a idea. both of mine sleep through the night.

you could try putting some rice cereal in his bottle before bed, or keeping him up later, mine has always gone to bed at 9pm or later due to having feeds late

I have a 10 month old that is the same way.. He has his night time routine to.. We eat spper around 6:30 and pay until eight. The he gets a bath and is in bed by 8:30/9 o'clock. But he always seems to wake up around 5. but any way. I put about three ounces of rice cereal in a bottle to 5 ounces of millk. so it seems to fill him up.. You could try using that johnsons and johnsons bed time bath, the wash and the lotion. It always seemed to work for my kids.. I hope that this can help....

Both of my boys have slept thru the night since around 8 wks. They sleep from 8pm-8am. I never really did anything to get them to sleep that long. I just got up every time that they wanted to eat and then they eventually just stopped getting up.

Babies need milk through the night until they are 6 months old - although there are a few who will sleep through before then - but it the exception rather than the rule. Your little one sounds like he's doing really well and I wouldn't be trying to make him sleep through when he isn't ready to. My girl is 10 months old and I still give her one night feed - about 4am - and she goes to bed around 7. She usually wakes up once before the 4am feed but if you pop the dummy back in she goes straight back to sleep. As long as your little man is going back to sleep easily after feeds, and as he gets older the time between his night feeds is gradually getting longer and longer I would just keep doing what you are doing. Sounds like you are doing a great job! My baby nurse told me the other day some babies don't sleep through til 18months or so - not that they are being fed when they wake, but they need a bit of help to get back to sleep once they wake - so keep up the good work.... he'll get there.

My lil girl is wierd ... when she was 3 mos. ( she is 1 now) she was sleeping from 10-8/9 kid you not, i loved it. I dont think its what you give your child before they go down , i think its just how they sleep and whats normal for them, plus i noticed when she had 4 good naps during the day she slept better, so maybe try adding another nap to kinda bypass one of the feedings .

Mandi- i really dont think giving water to a 3 month old is a good idea, you really shouldnt do that til 6 months b/c of water toxcity issues. But the radio deal is good, rhya has classical music playing thru the whole night!

but anyways good luck!

now she sleeps from 9-8 and takes two naps during the day

My son Denver was born on march 24 /09 he has been sleeping through the night since 3 weeks old. He goes to bed everyday at 700pm and wakes up between 630 and 700am.
We started to turn a radio on at night befor he would go to sleep. We start our bed time ruetine at 600pm ( i know that is really early but i have a 4 years old too) before bath he has a 3 oz bottle, we bath him for about 20 to 30 min, then a long tummy message (bout 15min) after that he has a 4 to 5 oz bottle. I try not to let him fall asleep while he is eating if he closes his eyes i take the bottle away. When he is done the bottle my older son reads a book to him and i lay him down half awake in his crib with the radio set for 1 hour to shut off. This has worked great for me and my boys.

If your little guy is just wakeing up to eat try giving him a sucky. If he does not take one try water in the bottle. after a while he will thinks its not even worth waking up to drink the water. The radio is the greatest thing i found with my 4 year he wont sleep unless there is white noise. it also helps them get used to sleeping through people talking and loud noise.
I hope this helps

For the age your baby is, he seems to be sleeping wonderfully! My little girl crashes around 7:30 to 8, sleeps until 12:30-1:30, eats, back to sleep by 2 and sleeps until 4 or 5 when she wakes up for another bottle. I put abt 2 tsp. of rice cereal in a 5 oz bottle and she conks out. The schedule your little boy is on is pretty similar to my Analeigh's. When I asked the doctor, she said that her schedule was PERFECT for her age, so same applies to you. Yours is even better! :)

My daughter didn't start sleeping through the night till she was past a year. By then most of the teeth had come in. =P just twice a night seems pretty good for that age. I was up every two hours till she was 4 months old.

my 6 month old has been sleeping through the night for a while now he started after i stopped co sleeping with him and putting him in his crib to sleep quieter and no one else moving around helped him get a deeper sleep i guess, but there are still a few nights here and there that he wakes up, oh and i also make sure he is awake for several hours before bed time so hes tired enough to sleep the whole time, once they sleep less during the day they generally start sleeping more at night

I have a three month old too who does pretty much the same thing. He doesnt go to sleep though till about 9 or 10 pm (he fights sleep). He wakes up at least 2 times a night sometimes more to breastfeed and then he falls right back asleep, unless its daylight out (sevenish) and then he fights going back to sleep again. I have tried cereal in a bottle, warm bath, and just about everything else i have heard but nothing work. I finally accepted that he is not ready so sleep through the night and I cant make him. I think once i accepted it, i didnt mind it too much.

I would give u the same advice Kaylene gave u, because everytime i put rice cereal in his bottle with his formula he would go straight to sleep because it would fill him up. The only difference from what she did is. I put alittle Kero syrup the white color syrup in his bottle with the formula and nursery water to keep him from being constipated and it worked. He is 4 months now and i started giving him cereal in his bottle when he was 3 months.

3 months is kind of young so they do wake often since they have small stomachs and can't eat as much. Do you give breast milk or formula? I breastfeed until my son was 4 1/2 months old but would give him one formula bottle before bed to fill him up a little more. This worked better but he would sleep 4-6 hours at a time. At 4 months I started adding a bit of cereal to his bottles at bed time too. My son didn't sleep 10-12 hrs until 7 months old which is about normal since at 3months they are still so little and needy... I hopes this helped a little

My son is almost 9 months old and he has just started to sleep threw the night a little bit here and there. What I do is....he has a routine too. At about 8:00 we give him a bath. Let him play for a few. Then we take him for a walk. About 9:15 we are home and I give him a bottle. I put RICE CEREAL in it. About 2 scoops and then a little apple juice to prevent constipation. It works great. The cereal keeps him fuller longer and then he would only get up about 1 time a night.

Try that for a while.

Good luck!
