My boyfriend's aunt said I should give my 5 month old some juice, but I disagreed because juice is loaded with sugar. At what age is it okay to give your child juice?

no sooner than 9 months, is my firm opinion, and then only diluted 3:1 (water:juice).

I started giving my baby girl juice at 6 months but I water it down. I'm sure it tastes more like water with a hint of apple flavor.

I think you can give juice once the child is eating fruits or around 6 months. Our doctor said not to give more than 2 ounces a day and to dilute it with water. I figured there was no nutritional benefit for my daughter ( 9 months) so I don't give it to her except to try to get her to learn how to use a sippy cup which just makes a mess. You don't want your baby to replace formula/breast milk or food with juice so I wouldn't give too much and I would dilute it in half with water.

6 months is okay. There are juices made just for babies so it is fine for your baby to drink juice and it doesn't have to be diluted. If it is diluted too much your child can get diarrhea.

I think its ok to give it to them at 4 months, but i wouldn't. My daughter is 7 months now and i've only given her a little bit and i mixed it with water so she got 4 oz of juice and 4 oz of water and it took her like 4 days to drink it.

i agree with katrina. . some juices are okay like the pure fruit ones but i don't know about giving them juice that early. . .my son is 1 and my daughter is 4 and they are only alllowed to have orange juice at breakfast and thats somedays, i do give apple juice when they are sick because apple juice is tasty =) and it makes them feel somewhat better and i heated up to make cider on winter days. . .but i wouldn't give them juice until they are much older, but thats me, and remember they don't know what it is until you give it to them(that goes for all sweet things) my friend gives her son soda and juice boxes and capri suns and i tell her you know they will drink water if you give it to them. . .i tried really hard with my daughter to get her back to drinking water and she is now drinking it. . .i used to give her cup after cup of juice and milk!! she was drinking like 40 oz of juice and milk a day! and that was when she was 1. . i didn' t know any better but now i do. .

My son's nutritionist has told us that pure fruit juices are fine. Diluted apple juice is okay in small quantities as well. My family doctor had me give my son juice at 6 months. Only 2-3 ounces a day though.
