I have a 5 month old baby. I know to prevent SIDS, you are not supposed to use a blanket on the baby. I dress him in long sleeve sleepers at night, but as the weather gets colder, I feel bad for him. Even with the heat on, I couldn't imagine sleeping without a blanket. When is it safe to cover a baby with a blanket?

The way I look at it is we all had blankets, our parents had blankets, and so on. I think some of these things we "can't do" is blown way out of proportion. My daughter is 6 weeks old and I put her in one of those sleep sacks but I have a receiving blanket on her too.

I have three kids and I have always put a blanket on them but if it doesnt feel right to you believe in the instinct... you can buy blanket sleepers they are supported by the SIDs foundation, so they are very safe.. you can get them online at babiesrus.com .. and they have different fabrics so heavy fleece ones for cold weather and light cotton ones for summer... Dont quote me but I think they are called sleep sacs, and they are affordable as well :) hope this helps

I used a blanket on my son since birth as well. The hospitals also do. Keep in mind though when they are tiny I swaddled the blanket (wrapped around the baby). As long as the blanket is not heavy your baby should be fine. Your baby will move through out it's sleep and kick it off and move it. It's all good. Just no heavy blankets and don't pull it up close to face.

My son is 5 weeks old and he's had a blanket from day one. The things they say you can't have are wayyy out there. I do sleep him on his back but he has a blanket. One thing I personally do, is I put the blanket under his arms. Really though, now that he rolls over it doesn't really matter what I do, Every morning when he wakes up I find him on his stomach. I lay him on his back but he stays that way for an hour tops!

When my son was that little I would wrap him up in a receiving blanket and lay a little heavier one on him as well. So I knew he was nice and warm, and he is a perfectly healthy boy

I've blanketed my son since birth, he is also 5 months old. I sleep him on his back to help reduce the risk of SIDS. I don't feel there is a need to keep them uncovered. I wouldn't stress it. Do what you instincts tell you to do.
