I am interested in finding out when you started your babies on solid foods (cereal) and why? How do you know when they are ready?

I waited until 6 months with my first. At that point she was totally ready for food and mastered it like a pro! Planning on doing the same thing this time around.

Unless there is a medical reason, there's usually no need for solids before 6 months or so. That's how long I waited before giving my son solids - and we skipped cereal and went straight to some table foods and pureed fruits and veggies. I agree with Melissa that it is important for them to have good head control. Also, you can watch for them to lose the tongue thrust reflex - otherwise they'll just be pushing all the food right back out.

mine i did not use cereal as there is no need for it, i started her at 3 months because she was underweight and started on pured fruits and vegies with added calories, plus rusks with spreads such as peanut butter, butter or cream cheese etc. if they are wanting mroe then formula/.breastmilk and still hungry after a bottle or watching you eat they are good signs. its better for them to have good head control and development but not completely necessary as mine was way behind with development and couldnt even sit by herself til 11 months

It totaly dapends on the child i started adding cereal to my sons formula at 2 weeks old a lot of people felt that was to early but my doctor ashured me it was ok. i new it was the thing to do because he was going threw so many bottles and was never seaming satisfied. he started on the plain cereal and baby foods at about 2 months with the continued bottle feedings as well. so it all dapends of the child if you think yours may be ready id sagest giving it a try.

I started Taylor on solids when she was about 4 months just with the ceral at first.. I do so because she was holding her own head up well and she would make the motion she wanted to eat. Like if I was eating something she would chew like she was eating aswell.

well its different with all babies, i s tarted around 6 months, just introducing her to a spoon, with some baby oatmeal on it, or rice cereal. the whole thing is getting them used to eating with a spoon. . she still got her nutrition from her normal feedings but i would try once a day to feed her with the spoon. but you will see the difference day by day as they start understanding that its a different way to eat.
