Personally I hate seeing babies with pierced ears. I see it almost as a form of abuse - the child will be in pain, unable to understand why, and has not been able to give their consent to have bits of metal forced through their tender lobes. I'm waiting until my daughter is old enough to ask for pierced ears, then I'm going to take her to a piercing professional who'll use proper equipment, not an outlet of Claires who will pierce all and sundry in the middle of a shop with a piercing gun.

I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 3 months old. We haven't had any issues with them. However, I got my other daughter's pierced the same time (she was 20 months) and she wouldn't leave them alone and we had to take them out. In my opinion, the sooner the better!

I took both my daughters to have their ears pierced at three months old. The hairdresser where I have been going for several years offers an ear piercing service for baby girls from three months old and managed to persuade me this was the best age for Amy, our older daughter, to have it done. When Emily came along, the decision was much easier. Amy is now five years old and Emily is three and both love wearing earrings. We have had no problems with either little girls' earrings and I am sure it is much easier for them to have it done when they are babies. Some of their friends also have pierced ears and some do not. However the girls who do not wear earrings are envious of the girls that do. This is a personal decision for all moms who have baby girls but I am very pleased I had both my daughters' ears pierced in infancy and I am pleased that my partner supported my decision all the way. It is true they do cry when having it done but this is only for a few seconds and they soon get over it. With both girls I nursed them in the salon soon after the ear piercing which made it much easier for them.

when I first got MY ears peirced I was a baby. They lasted until I was in about 5th grade, and then when I took them out they quickly closed up and it was impossible to get earings back in, so i had to eventually get them repeirced. I want to get my 2 yr old daughter's done, but I refuse until she can say "mommy, I want my ears pierced." Because as a toddler she wil probably pick and pull on them all the time. Its hard enough to keep a hair tie in her hair without her ripping it out. So the sooner the better, but youll probably have to redo them down the line. But dont wait until she is between 1 or 5 because then their will most likely be problems. What toddler would enjoy sitting still for 2 guns to shoot holes in their ears? not mine. Shots are hard enough lol

I got mine done when I started secondary school. I was allowed magnetic earings until then. This worked best for me and is what I would do for my kids.

I just got my daughters ears done (2) because she kept asking for it. I went to a piercing shop where the person is licensed to pierce and used sterile equipment. She cried for like a min after both and then insisted on having her picture taken.

not to mention that if your child decides that she doesn't want them in when she gets older it's nothing to take them out and let the holes close up!!!!

My daughter got her ears pierced at 7 months : ) she was fine and we had no issues or problems what so ever. I don't think she even noticed them doing it she was a little mad that they were holding her down and restricting her .. that was the worst part lol.

Although most of the people I know got their children done at like 3 months b/c they said that they dont touch or bother with them and they are alot more easily distracted.

But our experience was good : )

While I have no problem with other moms getting their baby's ear pierced, I'm going to wait. My 6 year old birthday present was getting my ears pierced and I was really excited to get it done. So, I'm going to go with that tradition in my family to wait until my daughter is 6 to get her ears pierced.

My daughter got hers done when she was 6 years old. I waited until she asked me for them and then we went to a beauty salon, where they have had proper training and got them done. She has not had any problems with them at all and was taught how to wash her hands and her earrings before puting them in her ears.

Take this advice from someone who used to pierce babys ears, and from my training & experience the best time to pierce ur lil girls ears is after she has had her first set of shots, which normaly is somewhere between 1 month or two . This way you take comfort in knowing ur child has been already to ur dr's n has given the ok, you also know whether allergy's may be an issue by now, and u know ur baby's pain threshold. Its always best to do it between feedings, and not before baby is due for a nap, becuase if u wait closs to nap time ur baby may be already cranky & agitated-not good for the person who is trying to pierce an already crying baby. Make an apt, and always shoot for morning or late morning apts in the middle of the wk -this way you have the place to ur self w/o the distractions of other. This time is also great should u choose to have it done in a dr's office. And always ask how long & how much experience ur ear piecring specialist has. Make sure ur baby is dotted b4 piercing to be sure of the location of the earing. And be sure that the studs used are 100% sterile, pkging should always be sealed and never opened until they are about to be used , and dont forget to request that the gun be sterilized in front of you b4 use. And ask to be educated in the differences between nickell free studs and 14kt gold studs. Dont forget the post care instructions. And when choosing a stud remember that it has to be in for 6-8 wks. Hope this helped :0)

Just a some info..... I think it's adorable to see little ones with their ears pierced and probably will get my daughter's done when she turns one BUT just a word of caution to those considering getting their daughter's ears done when they are really young..... I used to be a manager at an ear piercing place and know that if the ears are done too early, as the ears grow, the holes may look uneven.

I would wait until she has her first tetnius shot b/c of risk of infection... But, I would also ask her peds doc. b/c most of them are piercing baby ears in the doctors office now. It's safer than having some teen do it at the mall...

My oldest daughter (now six) had her done when she was just 9 weeks old (done professionally) - she slept through it. -We've had no problems.

My youngest daughter (now 10 months) had her's done when she was just 8 weeks old - she just cried at the sound of the gun (done professionally), again no problems.

If you are worried about the pain, there is an over the counter product called Emla (comes in a cream and a trandermal patch) If you apply this to the baby's ears before piercing they don't feel a thing (hence my oldest sleeping through the process at 9 weeks old). It does work too, cause I used the same product when I had my navel pierced! It really didn't hurt!

I also believe in getting it done before the baby "finds" their hands. This way they will not play with their ears.

I hope this helps.

I pierced my daughter's ears when she was three months old. It is perfect when they are too young to know what is happening before to get scared, plus they don't have the means to play with them to irritate the piercing. She is almost four and they healed perfectly, and are so pretty.

I work at Icing now and I pierce baby and kids ears very frequently. I have all age ranges but I never have any problems with babies, they only cry for a minute.

Our environment is very sterile. We use gloves, sterile earrings, clean all equiptment, and hands, and have lovely choices.

I didn't my ears peirced until I was 4 years old. My parents wanted to give me the choice and I plan on doing the same with my daughter who is almost 2 months old now. I think it is a special thing for a child to be able to ask for it and not have it assumed that will already have wanted it later in life. But I don't see anything wrong with parents who get their childs ears peirced younger. Its your choice as that childs parent.

As soon as I could at 2 months, she is now 4 months and we had no problems. I think it is better to do it when they are little so they don't mess with them while they heal.

My husband and I actually talked to our pediatrician about this subject. He suggested to atleast wait until they are 6 months old so that their earlobes are more developed. You might check with your ped as well, ours acutally pierces them at their office. Which made me feel more comfortable than going to a chain store in the mall. Things will be much more sterile! I was 5 when my parents took me to get my ears pierced and I still remember how much it hurt. I would like to have my babies done before she can remember the pain!

I told my daughter's doctor and he said that at 6 months she would be ready. He checked her out and on her 6 moth check up I had to go in an hour early and they put numbing cream on her ears and peirced them without a gun so there was no pain and no trauma. I'd check with your doctor and see what they can do.

i just pierced my little girls ears. She is 4 years old and she was a champ! I have had friends that pierced their girls ears when they were infants too. It is your choice really on when to do it. I chose to wait till my daughter wanted her ears pierced and could understand the choice she was making. 10 dollars and 2 little tears and now she is the happiest little girl! She thinks she is a true princess now =)
