When did you start feeling like you again after have you little one?

My son is almost 19 months old & i think I am almost feeling like myself again. I thought i was at that point when he was 12 months old, but now i see i was still a walking zombie then. I just want to feel like myself again. I LOVE being my kid's mom (as Dr. Laura would say), but i need to be my self & my husband's wife too or he may not let me have #2.

Well after my son was born (now 5yr), I only started feeling like myself when he was about 1year old. And after my twins when they turned 2. Some days I still don't feel 100% like myself but I think that comes with being a mom, you never actually really yourself again. When you become a mom that is now "yourself"...

To be you again means taking time to do whatever makes you feel like you. I take a day once a month of absolutely just me. No kids (I have 4) no hubby, and no work. I take that day to do whatever a want from a nap to hanging with friends. Me and the hubby do date night once a week and in those miracles that rarely happen,( kids at school and baby napping, hubby and me home at the same time) we engulf ourselves in each other. The thing to remember is you are already you it's just now you is also a mommy.

I guess for me it was hard because I was put on bedrest the last 2 months of my pregnancy and couldn't do anything either. (Not to mention I was restricted from having orgasms at about 4 months. hahaha) So, being in bed ALL day made me feel like I was nothing but a pregnant woman. So after he was born, as happy as I was..I went to feeling like JUST a mom, with nothing in between. Of course, I know most of it was just my crazy hormones. Haha

Excuse my french but I felt like crap during pregnancy. Literally, I was about to rip the baby from my stomach at 6 months. haha...but as soon as my c-section pain wore off, I felt back to my old self. I dont really mind the extra 7 pounds I still have or the screaming from my 2mos old son every couple days because I have the ability to do what I used to do. I could barely walk, sit, get up, sleep, eat, etc during my last couple months because he was sooo huge! He still is huge though...14 lbs at 9 wks. haha.

Oh man..I'm glad someone else has said what I'm thinking...

My son is 10 months old and i still have the occassional melt down over not feeling like me again. Haha. I think for me its that I'm a stay at home mom and my focus is on him 24 hours a day. (Of course, it would be the same way if I was working.) I remember the way it felt when he was first born...trying to adjust to being just "mom". As awesome as it is, it is definitely an emotional struggle at times.

That's why I have to remind myself on a regular basis to take times to do the things I did before he was born, like reading a book, listening to music, etc. I know that if I don't keep "connected" with myself, I won't be able to be the mom I want to be, FOR HIM. :)
