My son was a little over 2 months old before he slept through the night. The first time was the day after Christmas. That was an awesome Christmas present!

My daughter who is 7 now was sleeping for 10-12 hours at night by the time she was 6 weeks. My son on the other hand is 15 months and until he was about 8 months he would still wake up once during the night. When we started him on solid foods though and he was having a good meal at supper every night, we decided that he didn't really need that 2 a.m. bottle anymore and we let him cry himself back to sleep. It took 3 nights of listening to him wail for about a half an hour and he hasn't needed a early a.m. bottle since. It broke my heart, but actually one of our other friends had suggested it since they were going through the same thing at the time. Sometimes I think things become a habit. Like my alarm is set for 6 a.m. every morning and most of the time I wake up just before it goes off. Riley was getting up at about 2-3 every night and just got used to it- he didn't really need it. It will all come together some time and you will rejoice when everyone in the household gets a full nights sleep.

Hey Lizette,

I have a 2 1/2 year old girl and she was six weeks when she started sleeping through the night.  When she was about 9 months she started waking up again at least once a night.  We didn't break that habit until she was about 14 months.  Good luck and I don't think there is a certain age that you should except this, just when they're ready.

my daughter was 7weeks and my son was 8 weeks, it doesnt have anything to do with weight, my son was heavier than my daughter. But my daughter was born in January so it was dark, my son was born at the end of March so was getting light. but since they've both been sleeping through they've gone from 7pm to 7.30am sometimes later.

it depends on the baby...with jasmine we had to wake her during the night for the first 3 weeks because teh ped. didn't want her to go more than 4 hours with out eating.... then at 3 weeks she said to let her sleep if she wanted.. she sleeps most nights from 10:30pm to 5-7 am

i love it... most times she gets up to eat around 6am then goes back to sleep until 10am

Hey there

Well everything that has been written in replies i have done and my son is 2 and 3 mths and wakes up around 3 times a night. It does not phase me anymore as i am used to it. He was going through a stage for about 6 weeks were he was sleeping better but now he is in a bed it has thrown him out again. All kids are different and some are just bad sleepers and my boy is one of them. He is a normal healthy happy child but a bad night sleeper. So all iam trying to say is there is no given age it all depends on the child..

With both my boys (lewis 3years and Matthew 9months) we put them straight into a routine of putting them to bed once they had had their last evening bottle, we had the attention crying for a few nites with both but kept strong and worked with it. You know yourself if they are crying for attention or whether they really need you so work it round that Matthew still try's it on with us now as lewis when he was the same age but both the boys are in bed now by half 6 and sleep til half 7 in the morning which as we all need, gives us adults time to relax ready to start all over again the next day :)

My daughter started sleeping through the night when she 5 1/2 months old and I was the one waking up in the middle of the night checking on her to make sure if she was breathing. The next morning I was in shock she did not wake up until she was ready. And every baby is different.

My twin boys are 18 mos and they just started to sleep through the night consistently. They sleep better since we got rid of their bottles. They still wake up once in a while, usually one or the other, but I think alot of it depends on their personality...

my daugter who is 15 months still wakes up at least once a night. Dr. says its a habit but her stomache is growling so loud. We feed her a bottle and she goes right back to sleep. Good luck!

My son is nearly 14 months old. He started sleeping through when I stopped breastfeeding him at 9 weeks. He has a dummy so sometimes wakes up in the night. All children are different. Good Luck and enjoy your baby.

My son is 13 months and doesn't sleep thru the night. Some nights are better than others, but when he's ready, he'll do it. Yes, it's tiring now, but in the long run it's such a short amount of time.

I wish there was a magic number that babies start to sleep through the night, but really it comes down to how are you going to coach your baby to sleep? It takes a lot of work and keeping your baby in a routine.  I have had friends that their babies started sleeping through the night at 3 weeks because they really worked at it.  I unfortunately didn't have my baby sleeping through the night until 3 months because he had his days and nights turned around, took a long time to get that switched around! :P

Every baby is different and they eventually "learn" to sleep if you help them.  If your baby is a natural sleeper - you are VERY lucky! :)

Personally for me, my son who is 6 now, it wasn't til he was almost 6 months that he actually slept thru the night... But for my daughter who is 17 months now. She slept thru the night from the very beginning... And I actually did the same thing for both. I think it depends on the baby... :)

Usually when they double there weight. Or if it was mine, my daughter was breast fed and she did not sleep threw the whole night until she was done brestfeeding. So it all depends on the child and how they are during the day. Try and keep them up more through the day.
