When do you take the crib down and put your child in a bed?

My daughter is almost 20 months old and she is still in her crib, she has no trouble with sleeping in it and it is better this way because her 4 year old sister is in the same room. My first daughter never slept in her crib and always slept with my husband and I. I have not had to deal with this milestone yet and I am kind of worried. Our crib converts into a toddler bed with a rail, but I am not sure when to remove the crib part. And also when I do this how can I keep the two in their own beds? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My son was about 18 months when I put his toddler bed in his room. I kept the crib up for night time, but he took naps in his "big boy bed" so it wouldn't be such a sudden transition. When the time came (when he was 22 months old, I had a daughter via c-section, so I couldn't lift him out of the crib anymore), we took down his crib, and he did better than we could've ever hoped! You will have to deal with your child getting out of bed, but you just have to be consistent and keep walking them back to bed. Good luck!

It really depends on the child. If she moves a lot, keeping it as a crib may be better. You can always test it out for a night or 2 & see how it goes. My oldest (8) & my youngest (almost 2) always slept with us/me. My middle child (7) always wanted his own space. If both your children go to bed & sleep with little to no problems the way things are now I think thechange would be fine. Much luck with your decision!

I put my son in his own bed when he was almost two! So I think that anytime now will be a good time! My son liked it alot better and adjusted very quickly! He too was used to sleeping in my bed! Hope it helps and it goes smoothly for you!

I was planning on doing it when my daughter learns to climb out of the crib on her own.
