When is it okay to allow a child to use the electric outlets?

My children know outlet safety, but are still age 5 and under. How did you determine and introduce the use of outlets?

My 7 year old uses them. She has well developed fine motor skills, so has no problems using them, and she knows that she must ensure they are turned off before using them - she is fully aware of the dangers. I trust her to do the right thing. She was probably about 5 when I started allowing her to do it under supervision.

That's a good question! I have a 7 y/o and I still don't let him touch cords/plugs/outlets. I guess he's probably old enough, but at the same time it probably depends on the individual child and how mature they are to understand HOW it works, ya know?!
