When is it the best time to stop breast feeding if you're thinking about heading back to school and work?

I don't think it matters so much about how old your baby is as the amount of time you give them to transition to formula. I go back to work tomorrow (my baby is almost 3 months) and I'll be supplementing with formula when baby is in child care as I have had difficulty with pumping and building a supply. My doctor recommended that I continue to breastfeed my baby as much as possible as he feels its the best nutrition. I began transitioning my baby about 2 weeks ago by mixing 1/2 breast milk with 1/2 formula for a week and then giving formula only this week. I haven't had any trouble getting baby to take the formula, though I've heard some babies have a hard time getting used to the taste. I have notice that she spits up more, but she seems happier and more content during the day. I'm sure its because she can get the easy, immediate gratification of formula from a bottle faster than nursing. But you definitely want to mix 1/2 and 1/2 for a while before switching to formula completely. Hope this answered your question.
