Hiya, My son climbed out his cot as soon as he could walk properly about 14mths so i put him staight into a single bed and i used the mattress from his cot to put next to the bed as there bound to fall out after 6 mths or so removed it i still find if we move his room around he gets abit confused and falls out even now and hes 3 if he can climb in and out of your bed he will be able to climb out of his own which makes it easier!!!

If you want to transition him to a bed slowly, keep the one side of the crib down or take it off completely. That way he is still in the bed he is used to but it will give him more freedom like a toddler bed. Also, if there is room in his room, buy a toddler bed and set it up in his room this will help him get used to a big boy bed before he has to actually sleep in it. But, most kids transition easily to a toddler bed.

I just recently changed my 15mth daughters bed into a toddler bed, and she loved it, instead of chasing her around the house telling her its time for bed shes excited to sleep in her "big" girl bed. She hasnt had any problems falling out or anything, if it doesnt work you can always change it back and wait a little while :) Good Luck
