When should I start baby food?

My youngest son is 5 months old and my oldest is a little over 3 yrs old. I remember starting Jeren my oldest on food kind of early because he was underweight, so he had rice cereal at four months old. My 5 month old is not underweight, he is at a perfect weight. When I brought him to his four month appointment his pediatrician asked me if he was on food yet.... Is 6 months an o. k. age to start food? I tried a few weeks ago and I don't feel that he is quite ready. He drinks 4-6 ounces every 4-6 hours, and he seems to get full off of the formula. What are your opinions on this? I am open to hear any mothers opinion.

I would leave things as they are at the moment, sound like you are doing a great job well done

My son is 6 months and a few days and i started him on cereal but i dont think he is really ready because he is satisfied when he is done nursing but i will continue to let him explore it, i offer a bit in the morning, he has tried rice cereal and avocado so far but i plan to just go with him... if he doesn't show interest i dont keep offering it to him. I read somewhere that babies main food source is breast milk or formula up until they are one. Before one year they are just exploring different taste and textures of food. I wouldn't push solids to much if he is happy with just formula. :-)

It sounds like you are doing everything right. Start him at six months or later if you feel comfortable!

I would start him when ever you feel ready too. When my oldest was born the said to start at 4months but I didnt start until she was 9months. If he's not ready then he's not ready. No worries

I went to a nutrionist (only because I'm on WIC) and she told me wait until at least 6 months, because they are finding more and more correlation between food allergies, the earlier you start. Not that it's always true but it's possible, besides, if he's happy and content with what he's got then I would think it would be fine to wait.

6 mounths is fine to start weaning your baby they also say to wait untill your baby is ready caus ethey will start wanting more milk more often so if they go every six hours they less that down to every three hours thats when they are ready but if not then six months is fine.

4-6 months is the recommended time to start solid foods- rice cereal is started first, then veggies and fruits, and lastly meats. As long as your baby is content with the formula I wouldn't worry. 6 months is perfectly fine.

Waiting until 6 months is fine - that's what I did with my son. Most health organizations recommend 6 months, others like the AAP recommend 4-6 months for first foods. Personally, I think if he's thriving on formula, there's no reason to introduce solid foods before he's ready. Once he hits 6 months or so, you can start him on fruits and veggies.
