you can give water to baby at any time even when they are just days but not much, when they are 1mth or 2 you can give them 20ml of water, from 3 and up yo can give them as much as they want. it does not hurt them at all. it helps help to not get constipated from the formula.

Breast milk or Formula is all your baby needs especially for the first 6 months. Even after 6 months your baby can get water toxisity from fluid overload which will do more harm then good. Waiting until the baby is closer to a year is best. As a mother of 3 with my youngest being 5 months old as well as an infant nurse, I was being asked why I haven't given my baby water during the hot summer months. Water can be very harmful at that age.

First off, what is the reason people are suggesting water?
It is best for babies to have just formula or breastmilk if they are under 6 months. They need the nutrients as much as they need the fluid. If you give him/her water then they won't get the nutrients that they need. Also, do NOT mix your formula with more water than the container specifies or this will dilute it and again they will get insufficient nutrients.

I didn't give my baby water until she was closer to a year old. 3 months old is way to young for plain water and can actually cause your baby harm. No sooner than 6 months and even then, only a very small amount, since it's not actually necessary. Babies get all the hydration they need from breast milk or formula.
