I gave my daughter the fork and spoon when she turned one. She couldn't use them very effectively until a few weeks ago right before she turned 18 months. Just let him watch you with the utensils and let him develop his own strategy and he'll get the hang of it. For the potty don't attempt until he can communicate that he's interested in the potty. You can get a potty seat and let him start going into the bathroom with you to sit on it, but let him be in control of when he wants to do it. We got my daughter her own potty when she turned one and she lets us know if she wants to sit on it or not. She's going through a stage right now where if you ask her if she wants to sit on the potty she'll tell you no so we back off. She's very verbal and was very interested in the potty, but kids go through phases. Good luck.

My son is 14 months and he started learning to use a fork and spoon about a month ago....he's not quite ready for potty training yet but he's learning to close the lid and flush the toilet by copying myself and my fiance. I think potty training is going to wait a few months at least for him, until he can communicate that he needs to go. I think most books reccomend 15-18 months for the start of potty training. Hope this helps. Elizabeth
