How old were your babies when/or plan on using a toddler bed? and how did you go about doing it?

my son is 2 since march and as long as he dosnt climb out, he's staying in the crib! my 1st child, a girl, was climbing out at 15 months so moved her to a toddler bed for safety reasons. what a nightmare! she did not get the concept that you have to stay in the bed for a very long time! he goes right to bed right now & is quite content so i've learned not to try fix something that isn't broken!!! :-)

My daughter is 18 months and actually last night was her first night in her toddler bed. She did very well. She, of course, was able to get out of bed and play around for a little while. My husband and I would simply put her back in bed when she would get up. Eventually, after about half an hour, she stayed in bed and fell asleep. We put a matress on the floor next to her bed incase she fell out and she did once. I would recomend putting something on the floor next to the bed as well.

We bought my oldest her toddler bed for christmas she was about 18 months But with My youngest she hated the crib so we put her into the toddler bed at 2 months old and she loved to sleep in it.

oops I forgot to sya this before I hit post....

if your child is really rambucious, you may not want to use one of those convertable crib/toddler beds. They aren't as sturdy as a stand alone toddler bed. That's what we used for my oldest and he would up breaking it, so we got him a stand alone toddler bed. It wasn't that expernsive and he hasn't destroyed it...yet.

I waited until my oldest was 2 1/2. He was cribing out if his crib and I didn't want him to get hurt. I also have an 18 month old, and I think he's going to get big brother's toddler bed as soon as we find a twin bed. We're switching him this early because he'll go climb into big brother's bed and go to sleep since he can't get into his own by himself.

My little guy was 18 months old. He figured out how to climb out of his crib at that time and would always fall head first. He transitioned great! We have a gate set up in his doorway and we close his door. If he wakes up in the middle of the night he opens his door and calls us. The only problem he has is he constantly moves in his sleep and often ends up sleepinng on the floor - he doesn't seem to mind though!

I just moved my son into a toddler bed a little under 3 weeks ago. He was not trying to crawl out of his crib...but was trying to get into it at nap and bedtime, so I figured it may be a good time to switch to the big boy bed. Hes loved it from day 1! Nap and bedtime are awesome....he rins into his room, grabs his favorite blanky, turns on his music box and lays down to go to sleep. At 18 months I didnt think he was quite ready yet...I had tried at 15 and 17 months with no success. But when he started to show signs that he was ready for a big boy bed, I jumped at the chance to switch

My daughter was a year old when she started sleeping in a toddler bed. She was ready, she wouldn't sleep in the crib and could climb out and hurt herself, she loved her bed from day one. Our son on the other hand was 2 when we got him his toddler bed, he liked it ok, but likes his twin bed a million times more.

its really hard because when you use the bed, they in return can get out of the bed. it recommended to put toddlers 2 1/2ish. I tired putting my son at 2 and I think it was too soon. Now he wants to sleep in our bed. Before he would always go to bed right at 8 no crying super easy. Now he is in the big boy bed, bed time is much harder. So dont be in a rush is my bed recommendation.

Well, I decided to switch to a big kid bed when my daughter turned one and started to climb out of her crib... I figured it was a safer choice. I actually just changed her to a twin then a full and used one of the guard things they sell. She moves a lot when she sleeps and falls out of her bed on a regular basis.. My son is 18 months and is still in a crib and very content with it. It all depends on when you think your baby is ready.. My biggest challenge when switching my daughter was getting her to bed on time and keeping her there. I think thats why she started climbing out of her crib. She never liked to go to bed on time and still doesnt. You just have to keep putting them back in bed and they will eventually stay..

I plan on switching my daughter to a toddler bed at 15mo (her crib turns into one). We'll see how it goes. I plan on camping outside her bedroom the first few nights until she gets the hint to stay in bed lol.
