How do you deal with whining? My son is about to turn 3 and whines a lot. I know it's normal but I'd like to correct it. Ideas?

i tell them the first time that i cant understand them when they whine. i tell them that they have to speak clearly for me to understand them. sometimes i act like i cant hear them and i really put my hand up to my ear and say what i cant hear you because i hear a baby whining and i know that you two would not ask me for anything if you were whining and sometimes i mimic them just so they know how annoying it really is. i always say it is always a good thing to let your kids think you are a bit crazy!!!

I don't respond to the whines at all! If i ignore he either does tow things, stops or tantrums. A tantrum i just pick him up, don't talk, and take him to his room. I put him down and say, when you're happy come join us. He usually calms down then comes back and is ready to stop whining. I also tell him to use his words.

Our son is starting to whine a lot too. Whining leads to temper tantrums, so we just tell him if he's going to act like that and can't ask for whatever he wants nicely then he can go to his room until he figures it out. He usually stays there for awhile (he knows he'll get sent back if he runs right out), then he'll either peek his head around the corner or knock on the door (weird habit but he always does this) then comes out a lot calmer.

just hang in there and keep telling him to use his words. my daughter still does it and it really aggrivates me as well. Try occupying him by asking him questions like- "what is that" or " can you tell me what color that is" and just get give him more influence to use words and maby he will start. Good luck!!

Hi, my eldest is 4, and when she whines at me, i just say, 'sorry, i don't understand whining' i tell her if she wants me to respond to her, she has to ask in a 'big girl' voice.

hope this helps! :)
