Words of step-parenting wisdom? CRISIS!

My fiance recently found out he has a 3 year old daughter and although we live across the country and won't have custody, I'd still like to get some advice on how to handle it. I'm young and have no children of my own. Since it's from his past and he didn't know, I can't hold it against him (although it was definitely a LOT to take in) but what would you do if you were in my position? He's met her once, i figured i shouldn't intrude on that meeting but i would like to know this little girl since she is a part of him... and hopefully have a relationship in the future. the mom is definitely not someone I could ever see myself relating to or being friends with but for the sake of all of this, I would absolutely be polite and cordial. I guess I just want to know how to play it from here... like i said, i'm 21 and new to all of this so anything can help. I'm just trying to be the best woman I can be.

It sounds like you are in the right direction. Just take things slowly. You and BM might not ever be friends, but as long as you keep a cool head, things will work out. Keep being there for your fiance. I can tell you now, he is going through just as much as you are right now. :D
