My son's second birthday party is just around the corner. We are doing a farm theme and I was looking for some cake ideas. Last year we did rubber ducky theme and I made the cake in a baby bathtub and decorated it to make it look like water, bubbles, and chocolate rubber ducks on top. it was super cute and everyone loved it, so I want to make this years cake even better.

dee, thanks for the reply, the original post was from last year =) the cake turned out GREAT I love the 3-d look and did a 3 tiered cake the top tier was a barn, the middle was grass all over the bottom had a pond on top i made 3-d fondant animals an placed those around all the tiers everyone was super impressed and I had TONS of fun making it. this year we are deciding between Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Dinosaur Train for a theme.

If you had a Cricut Cake that would be pretty easy. They have lots of farm animals on their Create A Critter cartridge as well as on many of the other cartridges. I'm sure they have some on one of the many cake cartridges as well. I love mine! My husband bought me one for Christmas when they were selling them for $49! Good luck with it though, however you decide to decorate it! I hope to see pics of the cake once you get it done :)
I'm about to do up a very chocolate cake for part of my husband's Valentine gifts. I'm planning on cutting out some varied sized fondant hearts of different colors and flavors and once I decide what border I want to use I'm placing a border around it as well :)

flickr.com is a great place to search for ideas! Just search farm cakes. I love fondant and gum paste for making animals!

I did a farm animal cake for my daughter's first, I was in a hurry so it was a bit rushed and I didn't get to finish the details. I made all of the farm animals out of fondant, covered the cakes and put it all together, it was 3 tiers, but you could use one or two. I arranged the animals around the side of the cakes, added some flowers and toadstools etc and that was about it. I got the idea from googling farm animal cake pictures, heaps come up.
